Kilmarnock “Barassie” Golf Club is one of five courses laid out along a stretch of land around Troon and Prestwick on the Ayrshire Coast. It is sandwiched between Western Gailes, Dundonald and Royal Troon with Prestwick at the western end and Glasgow Gailes at the eastern end making up a stretch of great golfing history. The club was founded in 1887 and the full 18 hole layout is now used for Open Championship qualifying. The Barassie is now a serious test of golf measuring 6817 yards from the medal tees against a par of 72. The SSS of 74 tells its own story and you will need to play some original links punch and run shots to negotiate this classic links course. This is one of the Links Club’s hidden gems.
